KBS-MAM KAPCAI ENDURANCE RACE – ROUND 6: Y.Y. Pang Racing Wins Round 6 at Elite Speedway PLUS
As widely predicted, MOTUL Yamaha Y.Y. Pang Racing Team took top honours at Round 6 of the inaugural KBS-MAM Kapcai Endurance Race as they took opportunity of a sunny weather and dry track at Elite Speedway PLUS Circuit; putting a dominating performance on their Yamaha machine to sweep aside.
With an experienced partnership of Mohd Adid Rosley, Mohd Azhar Abdul Jalil and Mohd Izat Zaidi, the trio completed 123 laps around the twisty and challenging 959-meter track in the two-hour contest, which was watched by some 1,000 fans that included Malaysia’s Moto 3 rider Muhammad Zulfahmi Khairuddin of Red Bull KTM Racing.
Second place for bikes under 150cc category was won by KKMR Racing Team with Pagoh Motocross taking third place. Both teams completed 120 laps. Despite their awesome display of speed and consistency, the MOTUL Yamaha Y.Y. Pang Racing Team quickly dismissed suggestions that they would start as favourites in the Grand Finals, which would be held at Sepang International Circuit (SIC) on February 24 and 25.
“We would not say that we are favourites … we would also not say that we are gunning for the grand title. There would be many good teams, good riders at the Grand Finals,” says Mohd Adid, who acted as spokesman for the team.
“Having said that, you can expect us to do our very best … it’s quite an enjoyable race; but really a true test of fitness and stamina as well as the sustaining power of our Yamaha machine. The Grand Finals will be even more challenging as it would be a four-hour endurance race,” Mohd Adid said.
Team manager Y.Y. Pang expressed happiness in winning the round; and declared that his team would be going all out for the Grand Finals.
“We have a very good bike in Yamaha …. Yamaha is a very good and very reliable machine. If everything goes according to plan, no accident, no problem with machine … I believe we can do very well in the Finals,” added Pang.
Class 2 for bikes under 120cc was topped by Lyhin Daris Motorsports, which managed 122 laps in an earlier race of two hours. KCS Motor took second place with 120 laps; and MM Bike Centre took third place with 118 laps. Class 1 for bikes under 100cc was won by Scud Motorsports with 97 laps. Parit Wahid Racing Club took second place with 91 laps and Pro Test Motorsports 2 completed the podium with 69 laps.
The series would now proceed to Dato’ Sagor Racing Circuit in Kampung Gajah, Perak for Round 7 on January 19 and 20; before concluding the preliminary rounds in Kuala Terengganu on February 1 and 2 for Round 8. Top seven finishers in each categories would qualify for the Grand Finals. Winners of the grand finals earned automatic berths for this year’s SIC Ninja 250 Cup, which in turn, provides the opportunity to be selected to race on the world stage at the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix on wildcard tickets.
